Thank you, thank you, thank you all for making the first ever Isla Vista Carrotmob a huge success! In four hours we generated approximately $5,500 in revenue and had over 500 people shop at IV Market which will result in $1,100 of energy efficient retrofits to their store. On a typical Saturday between 1-5pm IV Market brings in approximately $2,000 in revenue so we are all excited about the success of the project.

Lucas Johnson of Sun (re)construction, Southern California Edison, and the Environmental Affairs Board partnered up on this project and conducted a preliminary energy audit on IV Market this past week. Our suggestions to IV Market will be ready in the next few days and will be posted on our website. The initial audit showed a large potential for savings with minimal investment so we are all very excited.

Once again, THANK YOU for being so awesome and supporting the betterment of your community through conscious, organized, and smart purchasing. The Environmental Affairs Board will continue to conduct projects similar to Carrotmob and we are always looking for creative and innovative individuals to partner with so stop by and see us soon!

IV Market Takes the Cake, the Carrot Cake that is!!!

The bids are in, the dust has settled, and the winning liquor store for the first ever Isla Vista Carrotmob is IV Market! Owner Lee Johnson pledged to put forth 20 percent of all revenue earned during the event towards energy efficient improvements to his store. So for every dollar you spend on Saturday, November 21st from IV Market you are putting a little bit (more than a little bit, 20%) of what you spend towards making Isla Vista Market a GREEN store.

IV Market has been in Isla Vista since, well the beginning of Isla Vista, and has been a family owned business for the majority of the time. Brothers Lee and Ron Johnson are committed to building a healthy community and are gearing up for next Saturday’s big event. They are partitioning off a section of the store to highlight Sierra Nevada Brewing Company and New Belgium Brewing Company, two of the most sustainable brewing companies in the world. There will also be bins outside where you can drop off food for the Thanksgiving Food Drive or clothes for a homeless campaign to bring additional clothing to the homeless before the winter season hits.

So come join the “mob” and be part of something special. This will be the most fun you’ve ever had improving the health of the planet. See you all out there Saturday, November 21st from 1:00-5:00pm.

What is a Carrotmob?

A Carrotmob is a method of activism that leverages consumer power to make the most socially-responsible business practices also the most profitable choices. Businesses compete with one another to see who can do the most good, and then a big mob of consumers buys products in order to reward whichever business made the strongest commitment to improve the world. It’s the opposite of a boycott.

Make a positive contribution to your community and have fun doing it! If you have any questions or concerns concerning the Isla Vista Carrotmob please contact Hunter by e-mail at islavistacarrotmob@gmail.com or by cell at 805.895.4689.

See you all Saturday, November 21st!
